Award-winning author and filmmaker Paula Yoo began an initiative to send books to teen LGBTQIA + Readers
Award-winning author and filmmaker Paula Yoo began an initiative to send books to LGBTQIA + youth at the Orlando Youth Alliance in the days following the horrific Pulse Nightclub shooting. When Never Counted Out heard of her efforts, we immediately reached out.
One of the long-time Orlando Youth Alliance members had left the night club only 30 minutes prior to the shooting. The echoes the shooting had would ripple through Orlando and more into the hearts of the young people at Orlando Youth Alliance.
The Orlando Youth Alliance has been providing support groups for LGBTQ teenagers and young adults for over 25 years. In our 25 year history we have provided services to over 1,500 Central Florida youth. We work to make sure they never feel so alone and think that suicide is an option. No OYA youth has committed suicide.
We were honored to support the young people of Orlando Youth Alliance with books in the aftermath of the shooting. If you want to learn more about their work, visit: orlandoyouthalliance.org
